La Jaguar E Type fu costruita dal 1961 al 1975 in 3 serie per un totale di circa 70.000 vetture suddivise in versioni coupé, coupé 2+2 (dal 1968) e spider (detta anche roadster). Inizialmente la sua sigla sarebbe stata XK-E o XKE ma ben presto venne abbandonata in favore di E Type. La 1° serie va dal 1961 al 1968. Inizialmente era dotata di un motore a 6 cilindri in linea di 3800 cm3 poi dal 1964 questi venne sostituito con un propulsore di 4200 cm3, sempre a 6 cilindri in linea. Entrambe le motorizzazioni sviluppavano 265 CV facenti raggiungere alla vettura una velocità prossima ai 260 Km/h. Di E Type 1° serie ne vennero assemblate circa 31.700 esemplari e divenne alquanto famosa in Italia per essere scelta come vettura di Diabolik nell'omonimo fumetto delle sorelle Angela e Luciana Giussani apparso verso la fine del 1962.
