Nella remota regione montana del Mindat in Myanmar vive una tribù dove le donne vivono la loro bellezza attraverso un viso decorato da tatuaggi, sono le donne della popolazione Chin, riconoscibili infatti per i loro articolati disegni facciali che si fanno incidere da secoli con l'inchiostro. La varietà di stili e motivi geometrici, che hanno un profondo significato culturale per questa comunità a maggioranza cristiana, includono dei quadrati con dei puntini tondi al centro o delle linee che attraversano verticalmente il viso fino a raggiungere il collo, intervallate da alcuni cerchi e da piccoli puntini sulla fronte e sul mento. I tatuaggi sono eseguiti utilizzando spine, sangue di bue, estratti di piante e grasso animale e il processo può essere estremamente doloroso, specialmente nella parte intorno agli occhi, che può impiegare fino a due giorni per essere completata. L'origine più accreditata di questa usanza vuole che queste marchiature venissero eseguite sulle donne, sin da quando avevano 12 o 14 anni, per renderle meno attraenti agli estranei ed evitare pertanto che fossero rapite o forzate a divenire concubine del re, durante la Dinastia Pagan.
