L'edificio del Duomo di Savona, altrimenti noto come Cattedrale dell'Assunta, è situato nel centro storico della città con le sue imponenti dimensioni. La storia della Cattedrale inizia con i fatti del 1528 quando Savona venne conquistata dai genovesi, i quali decisero di costruire sulla collina occupata del Priamar una fortificazione abbattendo nel 1595 anche la cattedrale del IX secolo. La chiesa di San Francesco divenne, per volere di Papa Paolo IV, eletta a cattedrale nel 1559, però tra il 1584 ed il 1605 fu edificata l'attuale chiesa sul precedente monastero. Su progetto probabilmente di Battista Sormano, il nuovo duomo ha pianta a croce latina divisa in tre navate, quella centrale con volte a botte e quelle laterali a crociera. La torre campanaria all'esterno sul lato destro fu completato solo nel 1929. Il prospetto neo-barocco realizzato a fine Ottocento include anche il portale del 1776 con l'insieme dell'Assunta dell'Abate Giovanni Antonio Cybei. Provenienti dall'antica cattedrale sono il crocefisso di marmo del XV secolo e il fonte battesimale inserito nel capitello bizantino del VI secolo che troviamo subito entrando dal portale principale. Tra le opere principali presenti nelle cappelle delle navate laterali vi sono l'apparizione della Vergine a Savona del Ratti, una pala seicentesca raffigurante San Francesco da Paola e il Sacro Cuore di Paolo Gerolamo Brusco. Del pittore Coghetti ci sono diversi affreschi sulla volta, nel presbiterio e sulla cupola. Nelle cappelle del transetto spiccano un altare barocco della Madonna di Misericordia e un pala risalente al Cinquecento; della stessa epoca il coro in legno decorato a intarsio mentre è del Trecento il timpano sopra una delle porte laterali proveniente dalla cattedrale medioevale.
