Non lontano dal paese di Chiusdino, in provincia di Siena, si trova un complesso composto dall'Eremo (o Rotonda) di Montesiepi e da una grande Abbazia Circestense: San Galgano, orami purtroppo in rovina e di cui rimangono solo i muri perimetrali e il colonnato interno. L'abbazia si trova in una piana ai piedi della collina sulla quale sorge l'eremo che ancora oggi conserva al suo interno una spada infissa nella roccia che la tradizione vuole sia la spada di San Galgano. Nell'eremo, ai tempi una semplice capanna, il Santo visse il suo ultimo anno di vita e qui venne sepolto alla fine del XII sec. Nel 1220 vennero iniziati i lavori di costruzione dell'Abazia che durarono quasi 50 anni. Lo splendore dell'Abazia proseguì per circa un secolo, poi iniziò una lenta decadenza che vide la vendita di tutti i beni della comunità ecclesiastica fino ad arrivare anche alla vendita del piombo del tetto nel 1550. Nel 1789 l'Abazia venne sconsacrata e lasciata alla rovina del tempo. Oggi è luogo turistico molto visitato. #Chiese #Black&White Commenti e critiche, come sempre, graditi.
