.. fedele al suo passato di area commerciale della città, Deira, nella parte orientale di Dubai, è il cuore pulsante dei souk che sprigionano ancora oggi un'essenza unica, immersi in un contesto urbano fatto di botteghe e case popolari, i souk sono lo specchio più fedele della Dubai di ieri, ben diversa da quella ai piedi del Burj Khalifa o delle altre mete della Dubai avveniristica. Oltre al caratteristico Souk dove si trova un po di tutto, il Souk di Deria è suddiviso in zone, c'è quello dedicato all'oro e ai gioielli (Gold Souk) che è il più grande al mondo nel suo genere, c'è quello dedicato alle spezie (Spice Souk), un vero connubio di colori e buoni odori, c'è poi quello dei profumi (Perfume Souk), dai profumi puri agli oli essenziali, dagli incensi e il tradizionale oud esotico e per finire, c'è quello coloratissimo dei tessuti (Textile Souk), per visitare quest'ultimo, necessita recarsi a Bur Dubai sul versante opposto del Creek, l'antico canale che ha permesso non solo l'insediarsi della città, ma anche il suo sviluppo economico, l'attraversamento del canale, avviene a bordo di tradizionali imbarcazioni chiamate abra, un'esperienza molto suggestiva, in cui il panorama assume un particolare fascino inspiegabile a parole. - (Rod)
