Questa panoramica, che considero una delle mie migliori foto, l'ho sempre vista, a partire dal momento degli scatti, come un mio autoritratto. Sembra strano ma pensavo allora e successivamente di essere riuscito a fotografarmi l'anima. Quel poco che c'è è tutto me nel bene e nel male. Avventura, incognita, ricerca, solitudine (non intesa negativamente), unione indissolubile con la Terra e conseguente unione indissolubile con l'Universo, anormalità (nel senso di rifiuto di tutte le normalità umanamente accettate), semplicità, equilibrio, assenza di ombre, assenza di luoghi nascosti e, libertà. Panoramica da 6 scatti. Durante le 6-7 ore che mi occorreranno incontrerò solo 2 auto. Ma proseguiamo. Si attraversano varie zone di vera e propria steppa. Niente alberi, strada diritta che punta verso il nulla. L'estensione del territorio con queste caratteristiche è impressionante. Scendo dall'auto per godere di questo spettacolo unico. Giro lo sguardo a 360 gradi e non c'è che il giallo fino all'orizzonte. Il rosso della strada fende il giallo dividendolo in quelli che ai miei occhi appaiono come due perfetti semicerchi e si estende all'infinito davanti e dietro di me. Il cielo è di un forte blu cobalto e senza chiazze bianche ad interromperne l'uniformità. Stranamente, questa sconfinata monotonia restituisce una sensazione di spazio chiuso. I pochissimi lontani ed isolati arbusti che si scorgono con difficoltà nel giallo dominante non riescono a modificare l'impressione di stare dentro una cupola e che quello che vedo sia solo un fondale molto ben realizzato. E' impossibile avere un'idea delle distanze senza chiari punti di riferimento. Mi sento veramente piccolissimo ed i suoni che giungono a me parlano di isolamento. Non è affatto una sensazione di insicurezza, provo a spiegarlo. Ho come la consapevolezza che nulla può celarsi al mio sguardo, nulla è nascosto in agguato, posso sondare il futuro davanti a me ed il passato dietro senza che qualcosa mi sia ignoto. Con questa sensazione risalgo in auto e mi riavvio. Il giallo scorre mentre lo attraverso, ma l'orizzonte immutato per decine e decine di chilometri non mi dice che la meta si avvicina. Una sorta di dilatazione ottica, come se per ogni chilometro percorso qualcuno si divertisse ad aggiungerne un altro davanti a me. Poi pian piano l'orizzonte cambia colore e si innalza, una fascia di verde si frappone tra il giallo ed il blu ed il suo ingrandirsi continuo torna a raccontarmi muto del mio procedere. Finiscono i pascoli e ricomincia il bush.
