On another of the most miserable of rainy winter's day, today, I went looking back to a hot late summer, 2016.
Stratford East station is the end of the extension of the overground Light Docklands Railway, built to service and accommodate the highly successful 2012 Olympic Games.
Four years later, when I went, the retail complex, transport infrastructure is all up and buzzing and is now one of the biggest complexes in outer London.
Now known as Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, the vast area and buildings associated with the Olympic Games have all been readjusted to civilian use, West Ham football club have taken over the main stadium and the whole area was being landscaped to keep the promised legacy of sustainably serving the community for decades to come.
It is the furthest zone out on the network and takes some time to get to and back from Central London, but for an interesting and different half day out, there's plenty to photograph and enjoy for the visitor. Worth it! (and free) |
