È stato battezzato "Cratere della Sella" perché si trova sul complesso Craterico di Sud Est, precisamente tra il vecchio e il nuovo cono. Praticamente questo cono che è attualmente la vetta dei Crateri di Sud Est (3307m. circa) si è formato tra Febbraio e Aprile 2017
