La cinquecentesca Chiesetta della SS. Trinità, nascosta fra le case di Teregua, una piccola frazione del comune di Valfurva (SO), si individua per il campanile a vela, elemento raro e caratterizzante le modeste chiesette di campagna. All'apparenza, esternamente, non pare particolarmente apprezzabile, ma se avrete la pazienza di osservare gli scatti successivi, vi accorgerete che un involucro architettonico così semplice, nasconde, all'interno, dei veri tesori. Essa si presenta con una facciata a capanna ornata da un oculo e sopra il portale d'ingresso, da una lunetta affrescata con una rappresentazione della Trinità. La sua dedicazione alla Santissima Trinità, richiamo colto e decisamente meno popolare delle più antiche intitolazioni ai Santi intercessori e alla Madonna, è indice non solo della grave crisi che la cattolicità stava vivendo dopo la rivolta di Lutero (1517), ma anche del clima che preannunciò il Concilio di Trento (1545). Si tratta di un piccolo edificio a sala unica. Nel 1635, nel corso della Guerra dei Trenta anni, la Chiesa fu incendiata dalle truppe francesi del duca di Rohan con conseguenti danni agli affreschi e perdita della campana, che tre anni dopo sarà rimpiazzata da un nuovo bronzo opera del noto fonditore Nicolas Garnier proveniente dalla Lorena. In questo periodo (1644) venne costruita sopra quella preesistente, la sacrestia nuova adibita a magazzino del Monte di Pietà istituito in soccorso di orfani e vedove vittime della peste. Nel 1869 la Chiesa scampò ad un altro incendio divampato nelle case vicine. Negli anni della Grande Guerra, quando la linea del fronte correva sulle creste sopra l'abitato di Teregua, la chiesa divenne ricovero per le truppe. Si cercò allora di proteggere le pitture, chiudendo il coro con un tendone per limitare i deterioramenti provocati dal fumo delle stufe accese durante i bivacchi invernali. Successivamente gli affreschi e l'ancona vennero sottoposti a una nuova ridipintura che ne alterò purtroppo i colori originali. L'umidità con l'allargamento della strada attigua alla Chiesa mise a grave rischio la conservazione di tutto l'apparato decorativo. Durante l'estate 2004 la Trinità di Teregua, tra la sorpresa di molti, veniva considerata “luogo del cuore” da 3142 persone che ne reclamavano il salvamento. La piccola Chiesa si è classificata al quarto posto nella graduatoria nazionale del secondo censimento del FAI (Fondo per l'Ambiente Italiano).
