Da Ostia a Roma, sul lungotevere per fare qualche scatto. Spero vi piaccia: è ponte Sisto. Ponte Sisto venne ricostruito sulle rovine di un antico ponte romano, "pons Aurelius", risalente al 215 d.C., ai tempi dell'imperatore Marco Aurelio Severo Antonino, che così volle unira la sponda sinistra del Tevere a Trastevere: da qui si narra che venissero gettati nel fiume i primi martiri cristiani. Venne chiamato anche "pons Janicularis" per la vicinanza al Gianicolo. Tra il 366 ed il 367 l'imperatore Valentiniano compì il primo grande restauro e fu in questa occasione che venne eretto, all'imboccatura, un arco trionfale decorato da statue bronzee, i cui resti, ritrovati nel 1878 e nel 1892, ora sono al Museo Nazionale Romano. Crollato nel 792 a seguito di una piena del fiume, il ponte venne abbandonato e perciò denominato anche "Ruptus", "Tremulus" o "Fractus". Nel 1475, in occasione del Giubileo, Sisto IV incaricò Baccio Pontelli di ricostruire il vecchio ponte, che dal nome del pontefice prese il nome di ponte Sisto. Prima della sua costruzione, per collegare le due sponde, veniva impiegata una barca-traghetto che congiungeva anche due spiaggette: quella "Arenula" sulla riva sinistra e quella "Renella" di fronte. Nel 1599 fu restaurato da Clemente VIII, che fece rinnovare lastricato e parapetti in travertino, finché nel 1880 i lavori per la costruzione dei muraglioni ne alterarono profondamente l'aspetto, con la collocazione di parapetti in ghisa. È costituito da quattro arcate con un grande "occhialone" (come si può notare nella foto sopra) circolare sul pilone centrale, che da sempre ha funzionato da campanello d'allarme in caso di piena del fiume. L'intervento del 1877 modificò totalmente l'antico ponte mediante una sovrastruttura metallica, sorretta da mensoloni e corredata da spallette in ghisa, che ebbe lo scopo di allargarne la superficie calpestabile. Fortunatamente il restauro avvenuto per il Giubileo del 2000 ha restituto a Roma l'immagine quattrocentesca del ponte: furono così eliminate le pensiline metalliche e ripristinati i parapetti. Con una struttura in muratura di tufo rivestita esternamente da travertino, oggi il ponte, che misura 108 metri in lunghezza e 11 in larghezza, è aperto soltanto ai pedoni ed agli amanti del panorama.
