In Sudafrica è estinto come nidificante mentre sul chobe e sullo Zambesi la situazione è buona anche se è localizzato e quindi vulnerabile.
@Divotaglia il becco è proprio fatto così.la parte inferiore è più lunga e viene usata per pescare volando sul pelo dell' acqua.appena tocca il pesce lo tira su ed il becco si chiude.
