La chiesa di San Giovanni Battista di Monterosso è stata edificata tra il XIII e il XIV secolo[1] e ristrutturata in epoca barocca[1]. La facciata, datata al 1307[1], è caratterizzata da un paramento bicromo bianco e serpentino scuro e da un ampio rosone in marmo bianco, sotto il quale è posizionato il portale principale con lunetta affrescata ritraente il Battesimo di Cristo del XVIII secolo[1]. La struttura interna è a pianta basilicale e con una divisione a tre navate e, per le sue caratteristiche, rappresenta un puro stile gotico genovese che fu maggiormente rievidenziato dopo il restauro conservativo effettuato tra il 1963 e il 1964[1]. Sono conservati il fonte battesimale, realizzato nel 1360[1], una tela della Madonna del Rosario - alla parete destra del presbiterio - opera della scuola pittorica di Luca Cambiaso, e una Crocifissione sulla parete sinistra di ignoto pittore genovese del XVII secolo. L'altare maggiore, così come gli stalli in legno, è stato commissionato nel 1734[1]. A fianco della zona absidale è inglobato in una costruzione porticata di epoca posteriore, il campanile che fu in origine una torre di guardia[1] facente parte delle fortificazioni costruite dalla Repubblica di Genova nel XIII secolo. La torre è stata nel XV secolo rialzata e in parte ricostruita nel XVIII secolo[1] dopo un terremoto che la danneggiò.
