Non ho mai visto nulla di simile. Le tombe, tutte di legno con poche eccezioni, sono antiche e tutto è abbandonato da molti decenni. Le croci pendono in attesa di cadere al suolo. La fattura è per me sconosciuta. Ogni tomba è in pratica un piccolo recinto in legno, a volte in ferro, che ricorda le sponde del letto di una culla. E' impossibile aggirarsi senza passare sopra qualcuna di esse, tanto sono fitte. A terra tra la polvere una varietà di vecchie latte arrugginite, frammenti di croci, sassi, tombe crollate… Le scritte sono ormai invisibili o illeggibili tranne qualcuna più recente o perché scritta su materiale diverso dal legno. Sto sudando e la polvere mi si attacca addosso. Entro in uno stato di allucinazione che mi fa pensare che possano sbucare da qualche parte all'improvviso i baffetti sottili di Lee Van Cleef o il volto inespressivo di Clint Eastwood. Mi sembra quasi di sentire il suono ossessivo di un carillon. Sono un convinto estimatore di Sergio Leone e mai avrei immaginato di potermi sentire così dentro e partecipe delle scenografie che conosco a memoria. Comincio a fare qualche scatto, ma la cosa mi sembra tra l'irrispettoso e l'anacronistico. Cerco di decifrare qualche iscrizione e dare attimi di nuova vita a chi ormai giace dimenticato da decenni.
