Questa monumento si trova in Friuli nel cuore del Carso, sul monte San Michele, dove nel corso del grande guerra gli eserciti italiani ed austro-ungarici si fronteggiarono. Il monte San Michele è una collina che si trova sulla riva sinistra dell'Isonzo, tra gli abitati di Savogna, Gradisca, Sagrado e San Martino del Carso. Il colle, di natura carsica, costituito di pietra calcarea, completamente privo d'acqua, ha un profilo piatto che si articola su quattro vette comprese tra i 237 metri d'altitudine della Cima Uno e i 275 delle Cime Due e Tre. A dispetto delle sue ridotte proporzioni, il monte San Michele costituiva un presidio strategico di fondamentale importanza, dominando a sud-ovest la strada del Vallone che conduce a Gorizia, a sud l'altipiano e la pianura fino al mare. Per tale ragione il colle di San Michele fu una delle postazioni principali della difesa austro-ungarica alle vie d'accesso a Gorizia e Trieste. Gli scontri attorno al monte cominciarono il 3 luglio 1915, che viene storicamente ricordato come la data del primo vero battesimo dell'esercito italiano, ma fu la seconda offensiva dell'Isonzo, durata dal 18 luglio al 3 agosto, ad avere l'altura come obiettivo principale, nel corso di tali battaglie gli italiani, subirono quasi 46.000 perdite, contro le circa 10.000 degli austriaci meglio addestrati e meglio equipaggiati. Tale evento contribuì alla creazione del "mito" del San Michele, riconosciuto come uno dei principali teatri della prima guerra mondiale. Tale luogo è anche tristemente ricordato come il primo dove vennero usate delle armi chimiche. Infatti all'alba del 26 giugno 1916 l'esercito austro-ungarico utilizzo sul San Michele gas tossici (fosgene e cloro) che provocarono solo in quella data 2.000 morti e 4.000 intossicati tra i militari italiani Ciò nonostante, l'esercito italiano conquistò definitivamente (fino alla disfatta di Caporetto) la posizione il 6 agosto 1916 nel corso della sesta battaglia dell'Isonzo, durante la quale cadde anche Gorizia: le Cime Uno e Due furono raggiunte dalla Brigata Catanzaro, la Tre e la Quattro dalla Brescia e dalla Ferrara. Dopo la grande guerra, si è cercato di ricordare il sacrificio umano avvenuto in questi luoghi, ed infatti dal 1922 il San Michele è stato dichiarato zona monumentale e nel 1935 vi fu aperto un museo tuttora in attività. Questa mia elaborazione per rendere onore a tutti quegli uomini di ogni nazione che qui combatterono e le cui sofferenze ed il loro sacrificio, mi auguro, siano da monito affinché ciò non abbia più ad avvenire. La scelta di una PP così forte è per enfatizzare la durezza degli eventi avvenuta in questi luoghi
