Le Cave di pietra molera furono,verso la fine del 1800, un'importante risorsa economica per Malnate e tutto il Varesotto.All'inizio del 1900 per diverse ragioni la pietra molera venne sostituita dallo smeriglio e le cave furono abbandonate.Recentemente sono state dichiarate Monumento Naturale nel Parco della Valle del Lanza(Como-Varese).
