#Verde Vanessa cardui Nome comune: Vanessa del cardo Grazie alle straordinarie capacità di volo e al gran numero di piante nutrici della larva, la Vanessa del cardo è una specie cosmopolita. Vive in tutti i continenti a eccezione del Sud America. Nell'Arcipelago Toscano si rinviene in tutte le sette isole maggiori. La maggior parte degli individui che si incontrano in Europa però non hanno compiuto il loro ciclo larvale alle nostre latitudini. Gli adulti vi sono arrivati grazie a grandiose migrazioni. Milioni di individui partono dall'Africa nella tarda primavera, attraversano il Mediterraneo e si spingono fino ai Paesi nordici. Nel 2006 anche l'Elba è stata “investita” da un'ondata migratoria e si è letteralmente riempita di queste farfalle.
