Il Quadrilatero Romano è un quartiere storico di Torino. Il nome deriva dal perimetro dell'antico castrum romano, ovvero la colonia su cui venne fondata Julia Augusta Taurinorum. Tale area è ancora riconoscibile dall'assetto viario caratterizzato dal reticolo di vie ortogonali e da alcuni importanti resti della cinta conservatisi fino ad oggi. L'asse principale della città romana era costituito dal decumano corrispondente all'attuale via Garibaldi. Esso collegava la Porta Prætoria (detta in seguito Porta Fibellona) i cui resti si trovano ora inglobati in Palazzo Madama, evoluzione del castello che fu la residenza dei signori della città durante tutto il Medioevo, con la Porta Decumana situata all'incrocio tra le attuali via Garibaldi e via della Consolata. Perpendicolare al decumano era il cardo maximus che collegava la Porta Principalis dextera, conservatasi nelle sue strutture fondamentali, con la Porta Principalis sinixtera (detta in seguito Porta Marmorea e oggi conosciuta come Porte Palatine) che sorgeva presso l'attuale via Santa Teresa. Il tracciato del cardo non è del tutto riconoscibile a causa di interventi di epoca medievale che lo hanno parzialmente cancellato ma corrisponde alle attuali via Porta Palatina e via San Tommaso. Oltre alla già citata Porta Palatina ed a Palazzo Madama rimangono resti delle mura romane a fianco delle Porte Palatine stesse, sia a cielo aperto sia inglobati in edifici posteriori, il basamento di una torre angolare in via della Consolata angolo via Carlo Ignazio Giulio e resti di fondazioni delle mura nelle sale sotterranee del Museo Egizio in via Accademia delle Scienze. Nei pressi delle Porte Palatine sorgeva il teatro, ora parzialmente coperto della manica nuova del Palazzo Reale. Secondo una ricostruzione plausibile l'area attualmente occupata da piazza Palazzo di Città, (l'antica piazza delle Erbe, per via del mercato chi vi si teneva), sarebbe stata la sede del forum della cittadina romana.
