The Solstice Sunrise Spills out over Stonehenge! sent on June 21, 2016 (8:24) by Timk2. 27 comments, 2547 views. [retina]

at 400mm, 1/30 f/11.0, ISO 100, tripod. Stonehenge, United Kingdom.

Around 12,000 people (but not me) were at Stonehenge for the Summer Solstice Sunrise, at 5 a.m.this morning. This unusual view, taken with 400mm lens (35mm equivalent = 600mm) really does zoom in on all the vibrant and spectacular colours, which spread far wider both left than right than my narrow view here shows. Too much extra sharpness required in processing for my liking - I need a better x-400mm zoom!! #Sunrises

The exceptionally solstice coincided with the "strawberry moon" full moon!

Well captured, Tim! I like the early light shining on all their faces and the stones. You found a great position to photograph this from!

Ha! Thanks Ezio - charming might not be the word I'd use, but huge thanks! (They were very noisy and not all were tourists either!)

Sergio! I captured this Strawberry Moon too (as I had the 400mm and tripod) and will post it at another time. Cheers!

Thanks Ann - still too exhausted now to be able to write too much in reply, except perhaps that plans went a little awry and some considerable walking was undertaken, but worth it (?) in the end (well, as far as photos are concerned)
