Immerso tra prati e boschi, ad un'altitudine di 1520 m sul Monte Regolo, nel comune di Nova Ponente si trova il famosissimo Santuario della Madonna di Pietralba. Le origini del convento risalgono al 1553. La leggenda narra che la Vergine Maria apparve al contadino Leonhard Weißensteiner e lo guarì dalla sua malattia. Come ringraziamento gli chiese di costruire in quel luogo una cappella, dove tutti i fedeli da quel momento potessero invocare il suo aiuto. Questa cappella originaria fu immediatamente visitata da numerosi pellegrini e così si rese necessaria l'edificazione di una chiesa più grande. Nel 1673 fu costruita una chiesa che nel XVIII secolo fu trasformata acquisendo un'impronta barocca. L'odierna basilica è annessa al convento che è abitato dai Padri dell'Ordine dei Servi. Nel luglio 1988 ci fu la visita di Papa Giovanni Paolo II. Già in precedenza, tuttavia, Papa Giovanni Paolo I trascorreva le sue vacanze estive al Santuario della Madonna di Pietralba.
