What you may have seen in California was the California Condor or the Turkey Vulture, They are a fair bit larger and we have a lot of the Turkey Vultures here in Oregon. The Red Tail Hawk is from the hawk family and a whole different species. I have noticed in Europe what we would call a hawk is sometimes referred to as a buzzard. the word buzzard doesn't have a good connotation over here. :-) Wally
