at 24mm, 1/320 f/4.5, ISO 100, hand held. Costa dei Trabocchi, Italy.

Percorrevo la SS16 per raggiungere la costa dei trabocchi di Fossacesia (CH). Un cartello attira la mia attenzione: recita "Cimitero di Guerra Canadese". Parcheggio e mi avvio incuriosito, incredulo della presenza di un cimitero di guerra in un posto così sperduto. Lo "spettacolo" è di quelli che lascia senza parole: migliaia di lapidi spuntano su un prato verde, curatissimo, lì a pochi passi dal mare. In questo posto sospeso nel tempo, riposano le anime di migliaia di giovanissimi soldati che lì, sulla linea Gustav, persero la vita nel 1943, lontanissimi da casa loro, dalle proprie mogli, dai propri figli, dai propri genitori. Riposano qui dimenticati (forse) dalla Storia. Ma non da me, oggi.
