I bombardamenti della Seconda Guerra Mondiale hanno quasi cancellato la memoria del convento di Santa Maria in Passione, le sue rovine sono state parte della quotidianità del quartiere per 30 anni,un' area da esplorare per i bambini e ricovero degli emigrati meridionali in cerca di fortuna nel fiorente porto di Genova. Nel 1992 Comune di Genova e Comunità Economica Europea finanziano a metà il recupero del convento per farne un parco archeologico, per un importo complessivo di 7 milioni di euro (c'erano ancora le lire, ma si parla di una cifra che allora era paragonabile ai 7 milioni di oggi) che però si esauriscono prima della conclusione dei lavori nel 1997 (come sempre in questo paese di str... onzi ). Nella memoria viva del quartiere questa zona e' stata tolta alla quotidianità delle macerie, chiusa da cancelli e filo spinato, mai più restituita ai propri abitanti. Un completo fallimento delle amministrazioni che si sono succedute dal dopoguerra ad oggi. Risulta comune, tra le persone, una reazione spesso inconscia: i luoghi abbandonati smettono di essere considerati, diventano invisibili, vengono rimossi dalle coscienze. Dal 5 ottobre 2014 è aperto al pubblico il giardino del convento di Santa Maria in Passione: uno spazio culturale,che diventa luogo da gestire in comune,uno spazio importante e di autoformazione: dove studenti, abitanti e persone operanti nel mondo della cultura e dell'arte, possono sviluppare il proprio lavoro e condividerlo con la città. In questi luoghi si mettono al servizio della collettività le esperienze e attitudini personali: tante storie diverse che si raccontano in autonomia e nel rispetto reciproco.
