Il raro pinguino degli antipodi, o pinguino dagli occhi gialli, è l'unico pinguino non coloniale; le coppie fanno il nido in mezzo alla vegetazione costiera, ben nascosti da sguardi indiscreti; in Nuova Zelanda ne sono rimasti solo circa 700, e considerato che il pinguino non torna a terra se vede movimento sulla spiaggia, le spiagge dove è possibile incontrarli sono vietate alle persone dopo le 3 del pomeriggio; l'unica speranza di avvistamento è stare sul pendio che porta alla spiaggia sperando che tra le molte centinaia di metri delle lunghe spiagge scelga proprio dove vi siete appostati per uscire dal mare; la fortuna ci ha assistito con addirittura due esemplari; gli scatti sono effettuati da distanza considerevole, ma contenti di averli visti e ripresi, seppure da lontano - Buon anno a tutti - Megadyptes antipodes, Curio Bay, South island, NZ
