Gorgeous explosion of daybreak, Ann!

As you were using a tripod, where shutter speed is not important, I would have used the lowest iso possible, for the best quality and minimal noise, just wondered why you didn't? I'm not criticising as such, but logic and technical side is important for me and so I wondered. Also, unless depth of field is required, there is no gain stopping this lens down beyond f8, as the quality gets worse, due to diffraction (light scatter, caused by the sheer small size of the aperture opening).

Wonderful reflection. Very beautiful shot. :-P

Thanks, Tim!

My choice of iso and f stop were dictated purely by inexperience! I still struggle with the technical side - don't forget that it is not long since I abandoned the fully auto mode - so I try different settings to find out what works best, with only a poor understanding of how it all works...... Thanks very much for your insights - they are most helpful - I don't always absorb information at the first telling, as I did when I was twenty!

I do fully understand and appreciate that Ann, it's easy for me to take for granted that others think the way I do and indeed, you have come on leaps and bounds since I first knew you. But shooting at speeds fully handholdable, one could ask, what is the advantage of using a tripod at all?

Fully using the tripod, you saw my iso 100 f8 pre sunrise shot, which came out at a long 10 seconds exposure - but the colours, the clarity (it's unsharpened) shows that it can be worth it. I could have gone for f3.5 iso 1000 and about 1/4 secs, but after hauling THAT heavy tripod, past speeding cars and over ploughed fields, I was going to fully utilise what a tripod is truly designed for!

Thanks, Tim - I'm pleased that you can see some progress. Your point is about shutter speeds has been noted! I've just tried iso 100 and f8 in very subdued indoor lighting to very good effect!
