PiPio è il nome assegnato dalla mia nipotina a questo simpatico esemplare di pettirosso che sta svernanddo nel mio orticello."Rosso uccellino solitario": il nome latino del Pettirosso è la definizione che più gli calza a pennello. Secondo un'antica leggenda, questo piccolo passeriforme deve la sua inconfondibile caratteristica a una goccia del sangue di Cristo che gli cadde sul petto, mentre lui cercava, impietosito, di alleviarne le sofferenze strappandogli le spine dalla corona. Ardore e decisione caratterizzano l'Erithacus rubecola che, a dispetto delle sue dimensioni, sa bene come farsi rispettare:combattivo e orgoglioso, nel proprio territorio non ammette altri pettirossi, che vengono scacciati in malo modo. Solo con la propria compagna si rivela dolce e affettuoso: la corteggia offrendole cibo e dividendo con lei il territorio così gelosamente custodito
