Il tempio venne consacrato ufficialmente nel 1198. La sua parte a fasce bianche e nere risale al XIII secolo (presumibilmente realizzata tra il 1256 e il 1277[1]), e venne restaurata tra il 1931 e il 1935. Questa parte è stata derivata da un corpo più antico, che consiste nella chiesa primitiva, mentre a sinistra il campanile è basato sulla cappella sinistra del presbiterio. La chiesa originaria è un'opera di tipo siriaco del V secolo, con pianta rettangolare e abside semicircolare. Due archi a tutto sesto mettono in comunicazione questo spazio con la chiesa gotica. Quest'ultima a sua volta ha il tetto in legno strutturale ed il presbiterio è diviso in tre cappelle, coperto da volte ad ogiva ed a crociera, impostate su pilastri polistili.
