Come da titolo è stato uno degli incontri più inaspettati da quando ho iniziato a fotografare. Ero in un campo della Tuscia viterbese, alla fine di luglio, in cerca di uno scatto agli sparvieri o ai gruccioni che avevo visto giorni addietro da molti metri di distanza. Per non dare nell'occhio mi ero appostato sotto una vecchia quercia vicino ad una foresta e posta in mezzo ad un campo dove era già avvenuto il raccolto del fieno. Il vento era dalla mia e, con i rami che mi coprivano, difficilmente qualsiasi uccello mi avrebbe visto. Ebbene ecco che, dopo un'ora di attesa, vedo due orecchie spuntare dal pendio e penso " saranno di sicuro i cani a guardia del campo! Tra un po' mi sentiranno ed addio appostamento!" Ebbene dopo vedo che spunta la testa di una volpe: cautamente e con passo felpato si avvicina a me; sente il suono dell'otturatore della macchina fotografica e guarda nella mia direzione, ma ciò che vede sono i rami bassi della quercia sotto la quale sono nascosto. Continua sempre di più ad avvicinarsi tanto che ad un certo punto non riesco più a mettere a fuoco. Alla fine fa il giro dell'albero ed una folata di vento mi tradisce: la volpe, sentendo il mio odore, scappa verso la foresta come se la inseguisse un cane da caccia. Di per se la foto potrebbe non dire molto, ma vi assicuro che vista la presenza cospicua di cacciatori nella zona è difficile vederne una da così vicino e stare così a lungo a fissarla (spesso alcuni contadini le ammazzano come "metodo di prevenzione"). Lo scatto è stato fatto a mano libera con tempi proibitivi, ma il micromosso si nota appena. Nella foto poi in primo piano si vedono steli d'erba secca e qualcuno potrebbe chiedermi perché non li abbia clonati in post, al che la mia risposta sarebbe che non volevo togliere nulla che fosse presente nel momento in cui ho scattato questa foto, ma rendere il tutto più simile ai sessanta secondi magici che ho vissuto realmente.
