Franco Valente, cultore e studioso delle molteplici bellezze artistiche molisane, nonche' scrittore, con numerose pubblicazioni nel campo dell'architettura, dell'arte. """"""La cripta e' situata sotto il pavimento della chiesa madre dedicata a S. Pietro in Vincoli in S.Angelo in Grotte che da quasi sette secoli mostra un raro esempio di ciclo completo di affreschi dedicati alle sette opere di misericordia corporali. Scoperta quasi casualmente dopo essere stata utilizzata anche come vano per la caldaia, finalmente è stata opportunamente restaurata e, attraverso una serie di opere di sistemazione, è anche visitabile con una certa facilità. Un ottimo lavoro di restauro pittorico e le condizioni di illuminazione artificiale consentono di capire un po' meglio l'importanza di questo straordinario ciclo di pitture che, nonostante l'esiguità dello spazio, è tra i più interessanti della regione.
