Presente all'interno dell'area del parco, questa staordinaria pianta che si è riusciti a salvare dall'estinzione che la minacciava intorno agli anni 20... Il suo nome è Agryroxiphium Sandwicense, ma più comuemente viene chiamata Silversword per via delle sue foglie argentate che che riflettono la luce del sole con un effetto quasi metallico... In questo giardino al centro del parcheggio sulla sommità del Haleakela si può osservare tutto il ciclo vitale di questa straordinaria pianta... Può vivere fino a 50anni e può raggiungere i due metri di altezza... Momento in cui, prima di morire, fioricse un unica volta nel corso della sua esistenza, producendo un enorme grappolo di fiori lilla che una volta schiusi ricordano vagamente la forma del girasole... Pianta estremamente adattata all'ambiente circostante, vive nella ristretta fascia della vetta del parco, nei suoi ultimi 1000 metri... Mal sopporta temperature al di sopra dei 20 gradi... Per la sua preservazione è stata costruita una recinzione della lunghezza di circa 80 km tutto intorno alla vetta... Capre e cinghiali introdotti sull'isola erano diventati il memico numero 1.. oltre al vandalismo umano...!!! Cosi facendo, oggi possiamo ancora ammirarla risplendere alla luce del sole, incastonata in questo incredibile paesaggio lunare... Un ennesimo spettacolo della natura...!!!
