Poi ho realizzato che i falconieri, almeno la maggior parte di essi, amano e rispettano molto i loro compagni alati, li accudiscono con molta cura e competenza, li allenano, li fanno volare, li portano spesso in giro, instaurano con loro dei rapporti forti e intensi. Se ci rifletti, un rapace domesticato è comunque libero di andarsene ogni volta che viene lasciato volare. E, ad onor del vero, alcuni esemplari delle razze di più difficile gestione lo fanno!! La privazione della libertà è un concetto più umano che animale: quando un falco è accudito, sicuro e ben nutrito non si lamenta...meglio così che svolazzare da mane a sera per procurarsi una preda e spesso saltare i pasti!! Le statistiche dicono che i rapaci domesticati vivono mediamente più a lungo di quelli selvatici.
Certo, poi ci sono quelli che comprano un girfalco (rapace nordico) per andare a caccia in Sicilia o nei paesi arabi e ne fanno morire di caldo e di stress da un quarto alla metà di quelli acquistati. La giusta punizione per costoro è che il girfalco costa anche 20.000 euro, ma resta l'oscentià di farlo morire per lo sfizio di cacciare in un ambiente che gli è estraneo.
