La femmina di questa specie ha la particolarità di tessere spesso la sua piccola ragnatela sulla pagina superiore di una grande foglia (in questo caso è quella di un noce), che viene leggermente accartocciata, in modo da lasciare qualche centimetro di spazio. Il ragno si posiziona tra la ragnatela e la foglia, mostrando quindi il ventre, la cui colorazione perfettamente mimetica, anche per la vistosa macchia rossa, ricorda i colori del cocomero. Il cocomero è una cucurbitacea, da cui il nome scientifico di Araniella Cucurbitina.
