#Wild FIORRANCINO - NOME SCIENTIFICO: Regulus ignicapilla Ordine: Passeriformes Famiglia: Regulidae Lungo appena 9 cm, il suo peso non va oltre i 5 grammi. La livrea delle parti superiori è verde, il ventre bianco, mentre ai lati del collo spicca una tinta dorata. Il Fiorrancino si distingue dal Regolo per il sopracciglio bordato di bianco, che fa da contrasto con la cresta arancione. L'occhio è attraversato da una striscia nera, appena accennata nei giovani. Epicentro del suo areale riproduttivo è l'Europa centrale e mediterranea. Le popolazioni più numerose abitano Spagna, Francia, Germania, Italia e Romania ma le densità maggiori si registrano sulle Alpi e nella Germania meridionale. Alle nostre latitudini, mostra un comportamento prevalentemente sedentario, mentre nella porzione più settentrionale dell'areale riproduttivo la specie migra, solitamente, lungo le rotte nord-sud ed est-ovest, per trascorrere la stagione fredda nel Mediterraneo e nei Paesi dell'Europa occidentale, dal Portogallo alla Gran Bretagna e all'Irlanda. In Italia, la specie è ben diffusa in boschi naturali e artificiali di aghifoglie con abbondante sottobosco, ma anche pinete litoranee e boschi misti di conifere e latifoglie, parchi e giardini urbani. Nelle zone boscate, maggiori densità si riscontrano presso gli alberi ricoperti di edera. Sulle Alpi condivide l'habitat riproduttivo con il Regolo tuttavia, nelle aree più calde, arriva ad occupare anche i querceti mediterranei, dal livello del mare sino ai 1.100-1.300 metri di quota. Ambienti prediletti dalla specie sono dunque i boschi, ma il Fiorrancino frequenta anche aree con vegetazione bassa e zone umide. Si ciba di insetti, aracnidi, miriapodi, molluschi e larve, costruendo il proprio nido sia nelle zone montuose sia, talvolta, in quelle palustri. La nidificazione inizia a primavera inoltrata: di solito, il nido viene realizzato “appeso” ai rami di conifere, alberi cedui o cespugli. Particolarmente “produttiva”, la specie può portare a termine due covate l'anno, composte in media da 10 uova ciascuna.
