La Galleria Nazionale delle Arti è un istituto statale che dipende dal Ministero della Cultura. La nascita della Galleria Nazionale delle Arti risale al 1946 grazie agli sforzi di un gruppo di artisti albanesi. La Pinacoteca delle Arti è stata la prima istituzione di belle arti in Albania. Dopo molta fatica la Galleria delle Arti è stata aperta ufficialmente al pubblico l' 11 gennaio 1954. La Galleria espone una collezione permanente e ospita mostre temporanee di albanesi e artisti stranieri. La crescita costante in numero di opere d'arte a disposizione della Galleria ha reso necessaria la costruzione di un'area più grande che è stata aperta il 29 novembre 1974. La costruzione si trova sul Boulevard "Martiri della Nazione" subito all'inizio della strada Pedonale di Tirana, dove all'esterno si trova opera interattiva. La Galleria ospita 340 opere d'arte e nel suo archivio vi sono 240 artisti , ed è l'unica e più importante istituzione nazionale albanese che espone, conserva, studia, documenta e archivia le opere d'arte in Albania. Nel 2009 e nel 2010, la Galleria Nazionale delle Arti ha subito importanti lavori di ristrutturazione attraverso una serie di ingenti investimenti pubblici e privati. Dopo la ricostruzione la Galleria Nazionale è diventata sede di collezione permanente utilizzando un nuovo concetto di visualizzazione, con l'obiettivo di una migliore diffusione, educazione e informazione in materia culturale. Oggi la Galleria Nazionale conserva oltre 5000 opere d'arte. Oltre alla collezione permanente che si concentra sull'arte realismo socialista di famosi artisti albanesi, ha ospitato varie mostre internazionali , e collezioni importanti. Una parte importante delle attività NGA sono anche i programmi educativi, ai quali partecipano molti bambini e studenti.
