LA QUIETE DOPO LA TEMPESTA - La foto l'ho scattata alla sera tardi dopo un forte temporale e la situazione di luce pace e serenità seguente alla tempesta mi ha suggerito il titolo, ma la poesia di Leopardi che inizia gioiosa "Passata è la tempesta: Odo augelli far festa, e la gallina, Tornata in su la via, Che ripete il suo verso. Ecco il sereno Rompe là da ponente, alla montagna; Sgombrasi la campagna, E chiaro nella valle il fiume appare. Ogni cor si rallegra" ..... non ha un significato allegro e ottimista come pare, infatti si apre con la rappresentazione idilliaca della vita del borgo di Recanati dopo la tempesta: gli animali della campagna tornano alle loro occupazioni così come gli abitanti recanatesi riprendono i loro doveri quotidiani: chi affacciandosi sulla porta per guardare il cielo prima della laboriosa giornata, chi come le fanciulle andando a raccogliere l'acqua appena caduta o chi come gli erbivendoli già sul sentiero da attraversare. Il cielo si schiarisce e il sole torna a risplendere permettendo ad ogni uomo di affrontare un nuovo giorno con rinnovata felicità. Ma alla parte descrittiva però segue quella riflessiva e filosofica delle strofe seguenti con le quali Leopardi espone il suo pessimismo sotto forma di ironia. La gioia che viene espressa nella prima parte della lirica si presenta come un espediente per una meditazione complessiva della condizione umana. La vita secondo il poeta è bella proprio dopo che è passata la tempesta ed ogni uomo si rallegra perché, come la natura vuole, al dolore segue il piacere che è tanto raro ed effimero che si riduce a niente. Quest'ultimo a differenza del dolore che domina la vita degli uomini. La quiete, ossia il piacere, dopo un lungo momento di sofferenza e di terrore della morte scuote anche la gente che detestava o svalutava la vita. Riprendendo i versi di Leopardi “Piacer figlio d'affanno”, o per dirla in altre parole: la gioia non è altro che “frutto/del passato timore”. La strofa finale è un'apostrofe alla natura matrigna concepita dal poeta così come negli ultimi anni della sua vita con il pessimismo cosmico. L'ironia dei versi 42-54 si trasforma in sarcasmo, poiché la natura ironicamente definita “cortese” ed in grado di concedere “a larga mano” i doni che ha da offrire agli uomini. Questi doni in realtà non sono altro che affanni e sofferenze, e quel tanto di piacere che ne scaturisce invece è così poco da sembrare un guadagno. Il finale pessimistico dell'opera è un augurio di felicità assoluta, recuperabile solo con la morte.
