L'affresco, che orna il soffitto della chiesa di sant'Ignazio a Roma, supera i 2.000 mq ponendosi come uno dei più vasti al mondo. Ma ciò che lo rende straordinario è la resa prospettica. Infatti, il suo autore – Andrea Pozzo, che lo dipinse tra il 1691 ed il 1694 – ha realizzato, in pratica, un secondo edificio sacro (illusorio) che sormonta quello nel quale l'osservatore si trova. Si sottolinea che il soffitto, sul quale l'Autore ha dipinto l'affresco, è piatto.
