Anni fa a Praga, sul ponte Carlo vidi tante persone che toccavano la figura di un uomo in una griglia metallica, dopo tempo ho scoperto perchè. San Giovanni Nepomuceno, in rilievo sulla griglia metallica in foto, è una figura storica su cui ruota un'interessante leggenda, tra le più affascinanti in merito al Ponte Carlo. San Giovanni Nepomuceno era il vicario dell'Arcidiocesi di Praga durante il regno di Venceslao IV. Questo sovrano era conosciuto per la sua collera e per il terrore che incuteva in ogni suo suddito. Per contrastare un simile atteggiamento, San Giovanni Nepomuceno decise di schierarsi apertamente contro il re, opponendosi con decisione al potere oppressivo del monarca e questi, Venceslao IV lo fece imprigionare. In prigione, San Giovanni Nepomuceno venne umiliato, torturato e addirittura marchiato a fuoco. Dal momento che le continue torture non sortivano alcun effetto, San Giovanni Nepomuceno sarebbe stato condotto sul Ponte Carlo, da qui lanciato sul fiume e con una pietra legata ai piedi e fatto annegare. Un'altra versione della storia afferma invece che San Giovanni Nepomuceno non volle mai rivelare a Venceslao IV una conversazione avvenuta tra lui e la regina, mantenendo il segreto confessionale. A quel punto quindi, il monarca infuriato avrebbe fatto tagliare la lingua all'uomo di chiesa, che sarebbe stato poi ucciso tramite mutilazione. I suoi resti sarebbero stati gettati nel fiume. Quando i brandelli dell'uomo toccarono le acque della Moldava, gli esecutori assistettero ad un fenomeno speciale. I resti del Santo a contatto con lo specchio d'acqua avrebbero fatto brillare in cielo con una forte luce ben 5 stelle. Secondo la tradizione, accarezzare la statua può recare gloria e fortuna per ben 10 anni, e non sono pochi coloro che si mettono in fila per toccare la targa alla base della scultura. In tanti, toccano anche ogni elemento di una griglia nera con cinque stelle contenente una placca in rilievo che raffigura S. Giovanni Nepomuceno; si trova sullo stesso lato della statua del santo, a breve distanza.
