La "Loggia della Repubblica" è il caratteristico porticato antistante l'omonimo palazzo di Noli (XIV-XV secolo) . Noli, o meglio il suo golfo , era già conosciuta dai romani , che ne fecero un cantiere per le loro navi;la Repubblica di Noli fu costituita nel 1192 e fu una delle Repubbliche Marinare insieme con le più famose Genova , Venezia ,Pisa ed Amalfi . La piccola Repubblica guelfa , per tutelarsi dall'aggressività della vicina Savona, si alleò nel 1202 con la repubblica di Genova , combattè al suo fianco contro Pisa , partecipò all'ottava Crociata . Nel XIV secolo iniziò la decadenza di Noli che divenne un borgo di pescatori . Nel 1797 si estinse l'autonomia della piccola Repubblica che confluì in seguito nel Primo impero francese e , conclusa la parabola napoleonica, fu annessa al Regno di Sardegna (1814) e infine nel Regni d'Italia nel 1861 .
