Arona, vera e propria fortezza del Verbano, si staglia in posizione dominante su un promontorio che si affaccia sul Lago Maggiore. Il suo borgo conserva ancora oggi pittoresche piazze, piccole vie interne e sontuose ville. Di fronte ad Arona, non si può non ammirare la Rocca Borromea di Angera, il castello per eccellenza del Lago Maggiore. Questa formidabile costruzione fortificata è situata nella zona meridionale del lago, precisamente collacata sulla collina calcarea nella città di Angera, sulla sponda lombarda.
