Kumbh Mela 2019 La Kumbh Mela o Kumba Mela (“Festa dell'Urna”) è la festa religiosa più grande del mondo, un pellegrinaggio Hindu di massa, che si svolge in diverse località in base alla posizione di Giove, Sole e Luna in anni prestabiliti a rotazione e coinvolge milioni di pellegrini. L'evento centrale della festività è l'abluzione rituale dei fedeli nel fiume sacro indiano Gange o in uno dei suoi affluenti. Lo scopo è quello di liberarsi dai limiti e dalle illusioni dell'esistenza materiale e, attraverso l'abluzione rituale, purificare il proprio karma e fondersi nella coscienza cosmica. Nelle scritture vediche si legge che abitando per almeno tre giorni alla confluenza dei fiumi sacri si ottiene la salvezza e che bagnandosi nelle acque sacre nei momenti più propizi, come nei giorni di luna nuova, si ottiene la liberazione dai peccati e dal ciclo di morti e rinascite. All'alba, i diversi gruppi di pellegrini si muovono in processione verso il fiume per fare il bagno rituale secondo un ordine prestabilito. Il primo Snan (bagno rituale) avviene il giorno di Mauni Amavasya: i Naga Sadhu si immergono rigorosamente per primi, dopo di loro è il turno degli altri Sadhu e poi dei Guru, portati dai loro discepoli fino alla riva su baldacchini dai colori cangianti; giungono rimorchi di trattore o carri trainati dai buoi tutti decorati con ghirlande di fiori arancioni, colore dell'ascetismo. Poi seguono gli altri fino al tramonto, quando i fedeli appoggiano i lumini su grandi foglie che poi affidano alla corrente del fiume.
