Così chiamata per il gran numero di cervi che un tempo popolava l'area, Cervara di Roma offre una vista splendida sulla valle dell'Aniene. Ma, a fare di questo luogo un luogo unico, è l'arte: per secoli, questo piccolo borgo attirò artisti da tutta Europa, attratti dalla sua bellezza. Qualche esempio? Il francese Ernest Hébert visse qui durante il XIX secolo, e dipinse quadri raffiguranti le donne del posto come Les Cervaroles, esposta al parigino Musée d'Orsay. Oppure Joseph Anton Koch che ne ritrasse i paesaggi, Bartolomeo Pinelli, Corot, Oscar Kokoschka e Samuel Morse, che così descrisse Cervara di Roma: «C'è qualcosa di stranamente maestoso in un luogo come questo. È governato, per la maggior parte, da un silenzio perfetto».
