Particolarissima chiesa cremonese è una delle più antiche della città. Risale infatti al 1100, anno in cui venne costruita una chiesa molto semplice, a capanna come si dice in gergo, secondo lo stile romanico. Non è in realtà cambiata, ma viene solo abbellita dal protiro quattrocentesco che accoglie all'ingresso, elegantissimo con le sue colonne ed i leoni. Cremona sfugge alla peste del '500 e rende grazie costruendo il piccolo tempietto ottagonale che occupa la parte sinistra della facciata. Dedicato al Cristo risorto, realizzato in stile rinascimentale da Bernardino de Lera nel 1503. Funzionale, poiché protegge anche un preziosissimo affresco del cristo dipinto sulla facciata, e dunque oggi al riparo. L'interno della chiesa pesantemente rifatto nel corso del seicento, subì nel 1881, quando subentrarono i padri Barnabiti, un radicale intervento di restauro che riportò la chiesa alla sua primitiva bellezza, spogliandola però delle numerose opere d'arte che l'arricchivano. Della decorazione quattrocentesca rimangono due ambienti nell'attuale sacrestia: nella prima stanza sono affrescati sulla volta prinicpale i quattro evangelisti, nella seconda la leggenda dei tre vivi e dei tre morti sulla parete laterale, affreschi realizzati da Antonio de Ferrara nel 1419, di evidente stile tardo gotico. Tesoro è la sagrestia, che conserva affreschi quattrocenteschi. Tratto da frammenti di storia cremonese.
