Lo splendido comune umbro di Spello, in provincia di Perugia, è senza dubbio uno dei più interessanti borghi del centro Italia. Con una popolazione di oltre 8.000 abitanti, Spello è immerso in un contesto naturalistico davvero eccezionale, con le sue dolci colline ricoperte di ulivi e la sua rigogliosa vegetazione, oltre a rappresentare un fulgido esempio dell'antica e articolata storia umbra, iniziata molti secoli prima di Cristo. Per gli amanti dell'arte, della cultura e della quiete tipica del centro Italia. Il territorio di Spello è punteggiato da resti romani, edifici civili e chiese che testimoniano i numerosi accadimenti storico-politici di cui l'Umbria è stata protagonista nel corso dei secoli. La parte più bassa della città è tuttora circondata e protetta per quasi due chilometri dall'antico sistema di mura romane perfettamente conservate e che presentano innumerevoli accessi (le “porte” della città), tra le quali vi segnaliamo Porta Consolare, Porta Urbica e Porta Venere. Quest'ultima è uno dei simboli di Spello per via delle bellissime e imponenti torri di Properzio, poste a protezione di uno degli accessi principali del borgo e a meno di cinquecento metri da essa incontriamo il Palazzo comunale, opera duecentesca perfettamente conservata. Nella Chiesa di Santa Maria Maggiore, è notevole la splendida Cappella Baglioni, affrescata dal Pinturicchio, uno dei principali esponenti della scuola pittorica umbra della seconda parte del XV secolo. Del Pinturicchio è conservata, inoltre, la celebre Madonna in trono e santi nella vicina chiesa di Sant'Andrea. Rimanendo nei paraggi della chiesa di Santa Maria Maggiore, non potete perdervi l'interessante Pinacoteca civica di Spello. Ogni anno, maggio e giugno, viene organizzata nell'antico borgo di Spello, una manifestazione religiosa assai celebre, l'Infiorata del Corpus Domini, durante la quale il centro storico letteralmente ricoperto di fiori. Le antiche vie di Spello sono, infatti, ornate con quadri di ispirazione sacra realizzati con fiori di ogni colore e dimensione che hanno fatto meritare a Spello il titolo di “capitale dei fiori”. (Si Viaggia) Coronavirus permettendo, tornerò a giugno in questo splendido posto, ospite della mia carissima amica Vania, proprietaria del pluristellato Ristorante il Mulino.
