Zerynthia polyxena, ([Denis & Schiffermüller], 1775) - Famiglia Papilionidae - Sottofamiglia Parnassiinae - Apertura alare: Da 4,5 a 5,5 cm. - Distribuzione in Italia: Presente in Italia settentrionale a nord del Po con piccole colonie molto localizzate. - Habitat: Limite di boschi e ampie radure dalla pianura ai 1000 m. - Periodo di volo: Univoltina da marzo a maggio con notevoli variazioni da un anno all'altro secondo l'andamento climatico. - Pianta alimentare dei bruchi: Aristolochia pallida. - Dimorfismo sessuale: Femmina con disegno identico al maschio, ma spesso di dimensioni maggiori. Si riconosce facilmente dalla forma dell'addome. - Specie simili: Zerynthia cassandra, da cui si distingue per l'armatura genitale maschile, ma più semplicemente per l'isolamento geografico, essendo Z.cassandra presente a sud del Po ad eccezione di una località della Liguria dove convive con Zerynthia polyxena. - Armatura genitale maschile: La valva di Z.polyzena presenta un solo processo appuntito inferiore, mentre in Z.cassandra ne sono presenti due di dimensioni vistose.
