La Galleria Grande, che in tanti chiamano sempre la Galleria di Diana, fu costruita da Filippo Juvarra a partire dal 1716 su un impianto già esistente progettato da Michelangelo Garove per collegare il corpo centrale della Reggia con gli edifici della manica meridionale. Doveva essere, per l'appunto, un semplice collegamento, è diventata uno dei simboli della Reggia di Venaria e il suo posto più bello. Il merito è soprattutto della sua decorazione e della luce spettacolare che la illumina e, in qualche modo, la definisce. Immaginatevi una sala lunghissima, ben 80 metri, larga 12 e alta 15 metri, chiusa sui lati corti da due esedre, che danno l'accesso agli altri ambienti; sui lati lunghi, invece, ben 44 grandi finestre, con 22 ovali (rettangoli all'esterno) sulla volta, danno una luminosità senza pari, la vera grande protagonista del fascino di questa galleria. E' la luce che si arrampica sugli stucchi, sui bassorilievi, sulle lesene, li esalta e li sottolinea.
