Dear Rino, in some cases a photo is enough to find out how strong and great it was who we have always seen in different clothes, maybe all the more simple and unsuspected. I am a little amazed but also honored to see that what I posted has aroused so much emotion for many of those of our generation.
A thank you, said very willingly, for your participation.

A beautiful image of the "best youth" of the late 800 sent to the slaughterhouse by a wise and unprepared military elite.
My grandfather was on grappa, maybe they found themselves side by side.
A greeting
Roberto

You say well, so well, I wish it had been so, I would like to think of them side by side small men of outright strength, will and courage.
Thank you for thinking, very welcome comment.

The photo is beautiful and tells stories that we fortunately did not live.
I also loved the caption and the message it contains.
You did very well to publish it

beautiful image and caption... I hope that their sacrifice has served and that the war brings back a bad memory... I very much hope so even if we have to be on our guard and not take it for granted.
greetings and compliments

Beautiful photo as poignant and evocative; about war, little to add.
In that, a brother of my grandmother - who made all of us grandchildren laugh in the 1960s as he stammered and squirmed - was "weird" because he had been in shock ever since; found alive under a pile of corpses after an attack by the Austrians with gas.
E you still don't learn anything.

Dear Andrew, a "remembrance" took it with everyone, at least those who returned.
I thank you for the always welcome passage and the nice comment.
A warm greeting.

You will have definitely worked the photo digitally and the original, very nice, seems to me a great quality photo made by a professional. The caption is beautiful, congratulations very much.
A greeting

Thank you Maurizio.
Saths comments on this photo are particularly dear to me. I have reproduced and worked, as far as possible, the photo I keep here in the studio in a small board. As far as I can remember, Grand dody said the photos were taken with those large wooden cameras (I imagine slab) at the time of assignment to the front, deliberately mixing soldiers from different departments so that there would be no direct memory of those who would not return.
Thank you again, with esteem.

Vincenzo, an important testimony.
As always the pretexts or alleged motivations that led to the triggering of wars lose consistency with the passage of time but what was asked and given in that present now far away is absolute value: self-denial, fatigue, courage, suffering and for many death are not negotiable values.
Conserving the memory of those people still keeps them alive and makes sense of their sacrifice.
I thank you Vincenzo, you are good with pen and heart.

When I think about how much year those kids suffered, I get a knot in my throat. Beautiful photo and historical document.
