They were shooting in the back, yes dear Paul! Nearby was the frontline, war of position, all displaced. Back home
have found the houses destroyed, all to be redone... and a strong emigration ensued, which has emvoted our valleys...
For the rawness of an insulting war you just need to read A Year on the Plateau, by Emilio Lussu, to realize what was going on ...
From our parts, borderland, close relatives forced to enlist as enemies!!!

My grandfather also made the first war, he was captured by the Austrians at the head and he made all the Balkans as a prisoner, after the war was repatriated along with the other Italians, as soon as they landed in Italy they were greeted by spits and insults to the cry of traitors Eeeek!!! ..... ignorance of peoples

This is proving that people are
. And I'll stop here!
Thank you for your great and precious testimony.
ONORE to those guys!
Franco

I hardly find myself in trouble when it comes to "hitting" a pen or tapping on the keyboard to express a concept or a reflection but... in this case your heartfelt participation touches me deeply. I really did not think to perceive, so tangible, so much human warmth, comments and reflections and stories that come from an authentic experience, from a deep thought.
Thank you all, dear friends, tonight will be more serene than others.
Paul

The best youth going underground... because of a few, as I told Marino for his picture of a war cemetery...... so it was, so it is and so always will be.
beautiful photo of the time but, to think that most have made a tragic end....

I admire you and have a deep esteem for those who, like you, have the sensitivity to propose and remember at a hundred years, an important and dramatic slice of history. My grandparents lived it on opposite sides, but no less tragically. The historical/social analyses and the consequences of the Great War I leave them to historians. The image you propose is intense and moving, a testimony of a human folly that has unfortunately served no purpose. War is always a defeat for humanity. Bravo Paul.
Bye gios ;-)

Great testimony. but what takes me then and the tribute you wanted to do first to your grandfather, and then to the thousands of guys who have suffered this bad story.

Deeply impressed by this picture, can't stop thinking about the stories behind the young men - former times, but repeating every few years... so sad Triste
