Lontano dalla modernità e dal caos, c'è uno dei luoghi più suggestivi e di culto che la splendida terra abruzzese conserva gelosamente. E' l'eremo di Santo Spirito a Majella che si erge a 1130 di altitudine. Incastonato tra le rocce, a detta di molti, è di una bellezza disarmante. Non si conosce precisamente la data di origine, ma sembra che fu Papa Vittore III a lasciare traccia nel 1053 dell'esistenza di questo luogo. Quando scoprì questo posto, infatti, fece costruire subito una chiesa. Nel 1246, fonti certe riportano la presenza di Papa celestino V ( Pietro da Morrone) che fece ristrutturare l'eremo e costruire l'oratorio con una prima cella. Fu proprio lui a dare il nome " Santo Spirito" all'oratorio della Majella. Nel tempo con l'arrivo di nuovi confratelli, fece ampliare i lavori, realizzando nuove celle e aggiungendo anche un secondo oratorio. Nel 1278 il Vescovo Nicola di Fossa concesse all'eremo il titolo di monastero. Un lento declino dovuto a difficoltà economiche e climatiche, portò l'eremo a grandi disagi. Soltanto grazie al monaco Pietro Santucci da Manfredonia, nel 1586, l'eremo riprese "vita" e ottenne il titolo di Badia. Venne costruita la Scala Santa . Nel 1951 le ossa di Santo Stefano detto Lupo vennero portate dal monastero di Manopello al Santo Spirito. Isolato dal mondo,luogo di pace e di riflessione, ha tutta la bellezza e il fascino della natura che con i suoi colori, ambientazioni e panorami, fusi a misticismo, sacro e religioso, rendono questo posto uno dei più caratteristici e suggestivi della Majella.
