Un luogo a me caro in quanto da bambino, mio padre mi ci portava col motorino a fare il bagno. Da sinistra verso destra si possono ammirare: Abbazia dei Benedettini, costruita proprio a ridosso del porticciolo ed affacciata direttamente sul mare è la principale attrazione turistica della località. La chiesa, di fondazione benedettina, è stata progettata nel X secolo. Dal XVI secolo l'abbazia fu la dimora dei frati minori conventuali dei SS. Apostoli e nel 1785 diventò del Regio Demanio. Nel 1866 lo Stato ha venduto l'abbazia ai marchesi La Greca. Ha pianta quadrangolare irregolare, con un enorme portico sulla facciata principale, scandita a logge con arcate a tutto sesto. Il transetto è sormontato da una piccola cupola circolare. Il campanile è una torre finemente lavorata in barocco leccese. Il portico della facciata all'interno si affaccia in un piccolo chiostro con il pozzo. Al centro, la colonna segna secondo la leggenda il puntodi approdo nel'801, della nave della principessa Florenza con le reliquie del corpo di San Vito Santo Patrono di Polignano e dei suoi precettori, Modesto e Crescenza, spoglie che sarebbero rimaste custodite dalla comunità monastica basiliana, residente nelle grotte sottostanti l'attuale abbazia. La torre di avvistamento fa parte di un sistema di difesa voluto dagli spagnoli dal vicerè Pietro di Toledo nel 1532 contro i sempre più frequenti attacchi di corsari e di pirati. Queste torri avevano una distanza di quattro Km l'una dall'altra ed erano collegate ai numerosi castelli fortificati della costa pugliese. In caso di allarme si segnalava il pericolo tramite dei fuochi alle torri vicine. Era da tempo che volevo effettuare questo scatto. Dato che mi mancava un grandangolo, ho sempre rinviato. Colgo con questa foto l'occasione per presentarvi il mio 16-35 USM IS aquistato a luglio. Il vento era abbastanza forte ed è stata un'impresa per il cavalletto di tenere la reflex. Ho preferito l'uso del filtro ND in quanto le onde rendevano irrequieto lo scatto. Come sempre commenti e critiche costruttive sono sempre benvenuti.
