Piazza San Carlo. Dal 1618 dedicata a San Carlo Borromeo è sicuramente la la più bella di Torino e a mio modesto avviso, una delle più belle piazza italiane. Conserva l'aspetto seicentesco di armoniosa uniformità conferitole dall'architetto regio Carlo di Castellamonte (1642-1650), ed era piazza d'armi e del mercato Al centro si erge il monumento equestre di Emanule Filiberto, di Carlo Marocchetti (1838) nell'atto di ringuainare la spada dopo la battaglia di San Quintino del 1557. Il lato corto della piazza a sud-ovest è delimitato dalle facciate quasi gemelle delle chiese di Santa Cristina e di San Carlo. Bellissimi ed eleganti sono I palazzi nobiliari che si affacciano sulla piazza e conferiscono ad essa una bellezza unica di sobrietà e ricchezza nello stesso tempo. Nel settembre del 1864, dopo che il governo Minghetti prese la decisione di spostare la capitale da Torino a Firenze, i torinesi si riunirono in Piazza San Carlo per protestare contro questa decisione. Purtroppo, 184 persone furono uccise dalle forze pubbliche nonostante il carattere pacifico della manifestazione Note sullo scatto, la giornata era stata abbastanza uggiosa e ci stavamo apprestando a ritornare nell'appartamento vacanze.
