La nostra guida iniziò ad agitarsi per i rumori che provenivano dal bush. Già altre volte Jagat ci aveva fatto notare che uccelli, scimmie, cervi e così via, alla vista della tigre che si alzava e che iniziava a camminare, emanavano suoni diversi dal solito. “Alarm call”, “alarm call” continuava a dire. Questa volta era ancora più nervoso, fintanto che iniziò a dirmi ripetutamente “get ready get ready” . Poi diventò sempre più pressante “get ready get ready” diceva indicando là oltre il laghetto della zona di Tala. Improvvisamente Mangoo, un grosso maschio, apparve di corsa e in un attimo con una velocità e una potenza incredibile, saltò oltre l'acqua.
